neh neh

Today, I was told that we needed to move faster on the project, and I agree. My incompetent co-intern is starting to really bug me, not so much in work attitude, but ability. I think he wants to work, but he doesn’t know how, or how to ask.

We’re surrounded by people working knee-deep in the industry; designers, coders, project managers, CEOS, clients, but I don’t think he sees the bigger picture. Why can’t I be surrounded by my contemporaries? Sigh.

Moving into new Frontiers

Okay, so we have officially moved office to a brand spanking new building in the middle of the industrial hell that is Ubi ave 3.

As of today, the internet is still not properly set up. We’re getting pushed around different departments everytime we encounter a problem, and no one seems to be able to provide enough support to get anything solved. Our temporary solution was to hook up the 3G router and share that line around 12 people or so.

So far, I’ve fixed a computer, set phone lines, and re-configured the LAN backbone. Infrastructure wise I had to get help from the boss, but beyond that, I’m really learning a lot. Much more than I’ve learned in a year in school.

I’m thinking of becoming a lecturer.

Rising in the ranks

None of the programmers or bosses have worked with ASP or ASP.NET before, and now that we’re all working on the Singtel website, everyone refers to me for help with ASP stuff. Not that I’m a ASP guru or anything, but they seem quite impressed with my googled answers.

I think I impressed my boss today by quickly fixing up some problems the client complained about. But hopefully this ego boost doesn’t get to my head, and I continue to impress the bosses with stuff. I need an AD.

New concepts

In lieu of what I’ve been learning the past week, I went to hack out my gmail by adding pop access for my work, added a whole ton of filters, as well as labeled a ton of stuff.  Very 2.0

Funny thing. Although we are at most 10 feet away from each other’s tables, instead of talking to the person physically, we do it over MSN. Are they that lazy? Haha.

I have to conceptualize a few good ideas for a side project, but I’m hoping to make a large impact on the bosses… if I can even think of anything good.

Day 3

I’m not feeling all too great about today.

Cursed with a leaking nose the entire afternoon, it was very distracting to keep wiping off my nose.

Well, at least I finished off the documentation for an entire CMS back end.  The user manual alone was based off the mootools framework, and it’s simple, yet elegant-ish. It could use some organisation and proof reading though. But at least I’m finally getting the hang of this web 2.0 thing.

It’s about time, too.

mmbop, ba dubi dop ba do bop.

Honestly, I didn’t expect this. Before actually stepping into the office, I was getting used to the idea that my internship was to an Indian run company, where although on paper I was supposed to participate in their projects, I would just be running around shredding paper and getting coffee.

What I did get, though, were near-impossible deadlines, pinoy co-workers, and a heck of a lot of work to do. Turns out the company IS run by kei-lings, but most of them don’t need to come to the office.

As the cunning linguist Mr Axl Rose once said,  “Welcome to the jungle”.
